Scotch Weld structural adhesives EPX
Structural adhesives are primarily based on modified acrylic, polyurethane, or epoxy resins. They can withstand high mechanical stress and replace traditional joining methods with significant technological advantages.
Why use a structural adhesive?
3M Scotch-Weld™ structural adhesives are designed to help create increasingly lightweight and stylish products, transcending the limitations of mechanical fastening, with significant advantages in the design and construction of the finished product:
1. Design Freedom: Improved aesthetics, reduced weight and noise, and resistance to corrosion and fatigue.
2. Process Efficiency: Ability to speed up and simplify the manufacturing process.
3. Low Odor: Improve your work environment with new low-odor acrylic structural adhesives.
4. Dosing: Option to dispense the adhesive manually or with an automatic dispenser.
Some Considerations for Choosing the Right Adhesive
2. Assembly: What Type of Fastener is Required? What are the overall performance requirements (flexibility, high peel strength, etc.)?
3. Substrate: What materials are being bonded? It is important to consider the surface conditions of each material.
Bonding process: What is the current manufacturing process? Does the solution need to be adapted to the current process/equipment, or can some modifications be made? What are the different steps, and how fast do they need to be? Will the bonded joint need to be repositioned at any time? If so, why and when? Are there any environmental, regulatory, or safety restrictions?
4. End user: How and where will the finished product be used? Will the bonded product be exposed to adverse environmental conditions (UV, chemicals, high humidity, very high or low temperatures)?
5. Costs: Is it possible to optimize the manufacturing process (labor, reduction of process steps, materials, workflow, etc.)?
